Zwijndrecht won HIRDA Summer Cup 2015



The 7th edition of HIRDA summer cup was held in Amsterdam on June 6th, 2015 with Zijndrecht team being crowned as the 2015 champions. In a tense finale, Zwijndrecht beat a team from Nijkerk by 1-0 to take the trophy home. In addition, four athletes have received medals for their participation in the short-distance run for recently introduced segment HIRDA Run.

HIRDA organizes the annual tournament to engage Somali Diaspora Youth into the Dutch society and development of their country of origin. Networking and Diaspora engagement play a big role in these tournaments.

Sixteen team from sixteen cities

Sixteen teams - drawn from fifteen cities in the Netherlands and one from Antwerpen in Belgium-participated in the one-day tournament. The games were exciting and showcased young Somali talents that have promising future if natured.

Best player and top scorer awards

It was not only the finalists who were awarded winner’s trophy and medals. Also feted were individuals who exhibited exemplary skills and/or attitudes during the course of the tournament. Leban Mumin was the striker of the losing finalists, however, he performed well and was awarded with the best player medal. Others were Abdirahman Cago and he scooped the award of top scorer in the tournament

Athlethics: HIRDA Run 2015

This year HIRDA added a new segment into its annual sporting event, namely athletics. This is aimed to give a chance Somali talents in the Netherlands. Almost 30 athletes registered for HIRDA run 2015. These athletes participated in short-distance run 200m, 400m, 800m, and 1500m. 
In total, there were 12 each run had three winners who held first, second, and third place. The winners have received medals and coupons.

In attendance to watch the live action were top HIRDA officials, Somali intellectuals, elders, famous Somalia sports personalities and hundreds of youths – mostly Somalis. Among others, this year legendary Somali Singer Ahmed Naji Saád was the special guest.
